MicroAquaTech

MicroAquaTech is a unique laboratory focused wholly on testing for Giardia and Cryptosporidiumin drinking and environmental waters. It was set up by Professor Tim Brown, initially as the Giardia Unit, to become the national authority on pathogenic protozoa (Cryptosporidium and Giardia).The laboratory was officially opened by the Minister of Health, the Honourable Bill English (26 January 1999, being described as a "laboratory of the future". This reflects the routine use of monoclonal antibodies, immune-magnetic separation and molecular techniques such as the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and gene sequencing.

Our Laboratory

MicroAquaTech is perfectly placed being juxtaposed to a research laboratory involved in the development of the new techniques. MicroAquaTech is under the direction of Professor Nigel French. The laboratory is operated is by Anthony Pita NZCS, who brings extensive laboratory and molecular expertise to this important area of water quality assessment. MicroAquaTech staff are keen to discuss your problems. Visits to MicroAquaTech are welcomed.
